Lowering Your Auto Insurance Rates in L.A.

December 31, 1969

It's an argument that's been going on for centuries. Who has it easier? Men or women? But when it comes to auto insurance, many would argue women.

Typically, men pay more for auto insurance. That's because they typically get into more accidents and get more traffic citations than women, according to Yahoo.
"Men traditionally have been paying more for decades," confirms Loretta Worters, a vice president with the Insurance Information Institute (III).

Our Los Angeles car accident attorneys understand that the gap in premium costs starts to shrink once drivers hit the age of 25, but it never fully closes. Men almost always pay more for car insurance than women. Luckily, we're here to help the men and to offer some money-saving ideas. There are ways that you can reduce the costs of your auto insurance.

In a study, "Sex of Drivers Involved in Crashes 2000-2009," men were involved in close to 20 million more traffic accidents than women. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), when women are involved in accidents they're usually less severe than the accidents men are involved in. Women also have been in fewer drunk driving car accidents.

But the times are changing and there are more women drivers out there nowadays! With more drivers, there are more accidents. Drive safely and follow the tips listed below to help to lower your insurance costs.

Tips to Help Lower You Auto Insurance Costs:

-Get older. As you age, the cost of insurance typically decreases. This is because insurance companies see a decrease in the number of accidents and accident risks among older drivers. A big dip in auto insurance costs usually occurs when a driver turns 25. Before that age, a driver faces some serious risks for accidents mainly because of their inexperience behind the wheel.

-Drive less. Many insurance companies will offer lower premiums to those who drive less. Fewer miles driven equates to fewer accident risks.

-Pay up front. When drivers pay for their auto insurance a year, or even six months, in advance, you can usually get a cheaper rate. Companies like their money and they like it as soon as possible. Paying up front helps to alleviate the risks for getting behind on payments as well as your risks of dealing with late fees.

-Safe equipment. The more safety equipment your car is equipped with, like airbags, anti-lock brakes and anti-theft devices, the lower you can get your insurance costs. Many of these devices can be factory installed and can wind up saving you tons!

-Bundle your policies. If you have homeowners insurance or any other kind of insurance with your insurance company, ask about bundling. Usually companies like to keep everything tightly wrapped together and will offer you a discount for doing so.

Male or female, we're asking all drivers to be safe out there. One of the most beneficial discounts that a driver can get is a safe-driving discount. Not only will it help you to save some money, but it can also help to save your life!
