After years of reports of serious Transvaginal mesh-related injury or death, the Food and Drug Administration is now ordering the manufacturers of this devise—surgically implanted in order to help restore normal bodily structure and to support a woman’s pelvic organs—to begin studying the health and safety risks linked to the treatment.
Hundreds of thousands of women have already received these implants, and reports show that nearly 15% of women experience complications.
Common complications connected to this devise include but are not limited to mesh erosion, pelvic and organ infection, pelvic pain, urinary problems, organ perforation following mesh insertion, and organ scarring. The FDA has been quite aware of these dangers. In fact, from January 2005 to December 2010, there have been nearly 4000 reports of injury or death due to the product.
